The Raw Truth About Robert's Passing
It’s been a minute!
Yes, it has been a few months since I have written a blog post or emailed you. The holidays flew by, and life just seemed to carry me into 2024, ready or not!
At last posting, I mentioned that our book was in draft form and the editing had begun. I am so excited to share that we continue to work with our editor to publish a book worthy of your time! To tell you the truth, it has been a new adventure to write and edit the thoughts I want to share with you.
Life seems to just happen while we are living. I mean the good, the bad, and the life-altering events occur in all of our lives as we are going about our business. There is no stopping some of it. Perhaps like you, I have found myself “stuck” in the middle of it all and needed to move slowly to get to higher ground. Can you relate?
Today, as I am writing to you, I feel the need to share a fraction of what these several months have felt like to me. It has been a roller-coaster ride of self-evaluation about my passion to help other families in the disability community and what that truly requires of me personally. It is as if the road has been plowed completely clean and I am left with the truth of our son, Robert’s life on display for all to see … again, the good, the bad, and the life-altering events.
One of the most honest conversations I have had as a podcast guest occurred during my time away from you. Helen Bauer, owner of The Heart of Hospice Podcast, and I discussed hospice considerations, grief, loss, and family care. I am sharing it here because as I journey into what is now nine years since Robert’s passing, I want you to know the raw truth about our end-of-life decisions for Robert, and the ways we navigated those discussions. Hopefully, you will never have to walk where we have walked, but I know many of you will. Some of you have done so already.
What does it take to keep living in spite of your deep hurts and redirections seemingly allowed into your life for your own growth? Speaking for myself, this takes a faith beyond my own ability, a place of service that beckons me to serve others, a vision that sees beyond what my eyes understand, and a selflessness that puts others’ needs before my own. And above all, it demands that I get stuff done!
However, it has taken me a few months to get back to myself. I am back … not as I was but changed. Are you ready to walk with me into 2024 with a renewed sense of purpose and passion for those who need us most … the vulnerable and the caregivers among us?
I am here for all of it. Let’s do this together!

Believe
So you catch me when I fall, right?
And you hear me when I call cryin'?
And you fix me when I'm broke, right? And that's all I need to know
So the storm is gonna break right?
And the sun is gonna start shiningAnd everything is gonna go rightAnd that's all I need to know
But what if you know something I don't?
What if you will something I won't?
If you don't give me what I want
But you give me what I needIs that enough to
Believe, believe, believe, believe in your love?
Will I stillBelieve, believe, believe, believe in your love?
So nothing's ever going wrong, right?
And every day I'm gonna be smiling
Turned my water into good wineAnd let the good times roll
But what if you know something I don't?
What if you will something I won't?
If you don't give me what I want
But you give me what I needIs that enough to
Believe, believe, believe, believe in your love?
Will I stillBelieve, believe, believe, believe in your love?
Believe, believe, believe, believe in your loveWill I still
Believe, believe, believe, believe in your love?
Do I want you? Do I want you?
Do I want you or what you can do for me?
Do I love you? Do I love you?
Do I love you or what you can do for me?
Sometimes I don't know
But all I wanna do is...
Believe, believe, believe, believe in your love (yes, I do)
Believe, believe, believe (all I wanna do), believe in your love (all I wanna do is believe)
Believe, believe, believe (yes, I do), believe in your love (let me believe)
Believe, believe, believe, believe in your love
(Believe in your love)
Believe, believe, believe (oh, let me believe), believe in your love (yes, I believe)
Believe, believe, believe (I believe), believe in your love (I believe, I believe)
Believe (in your love), believe (in your love), believe (in your love), believe in your love (in your love)
Believe, believe, believe, believe in your love
