The Memorial Wall

Updated: Mar 26

Look at Robert’s name!

It was inscribed on the Morgan’s Wonderland Memorial Wall this month and our family was present last Friday to celebrate his life with CEO Dr. Brent Fields and Morgan’s amazing team. What a moment for Chris, Jessica, Eliotte Nicole and baby James, and Victoria to honor Robert Christopher Henderson, our son, beloved brother and uncle. (We missed you James III and Ryan.) He lived and he struggled with his mitochondrial disease, but he lived in our arms for eighteen years.

How should we honor the ones who have relied on us for love and care? I believe this type of recognition is very meaningful. We know Robert’s life was impactful in gathering family and friends into his world of inclusion, but when an organization like Morgan’s takes the time to also include him into their organization’s world of inclusion, families share in a lasting relationship of legacy impact. Do you think having Robert’s name inscribed into the Memorial Wall unites our hearts to the Morgan’s nonprofit for a lifetime? You bet it does, and our family is grateful to have the opportunity to support their vision of Inclusion.

This recognition not only for Robert, but for the precious other individuals and families represented on the Morgan’s Wonderland Memorial Wall is a gift. We often feel uncomfortable mentioning  someone’s name after they pass away. However, I know our family loves to say our precious Robert’s name, and sharing his incredible journey with our community is part of the joy as we support other families like ours.

I love the lyric to this song, “Remember Me,” that Dr. Fields sent to us following our time at the theme park. I am Grandmother Coco to our sweet grandson, James, so it could not have been more meaningful to me. I am joined through this song to our youngest son and to our grandson.

Thank you to Morgan’s for this singular moment, and so many other awesome moments, when you have honored Robert’s life. We appreciate your time and willingness to link arms with us.

First we only want to be seen, but once we’re seen, that’s not enough anymore.

After that, we want to be remembered.

(Station Eleven, a novel by Emily St. John Mandel)

Remember Me (Lullaby)

Remember me

Though I have to say goodbye

Remember me

Don't let it make you cry

For even if I'm far away I hold you in my heart

I sing a secret song to you each night we are apart

Remember me

Though I have to travel far

Remember meEach time you hear a sad guitar

Know that I'm with you the only way that I can beUntil you're in my arms againRemember me

Remember me

Though I have to say goodbye

Remember me

Don't let it make you cry

For even if I'm far away I hold you in my heart

I sing a secret song to you each night we are apart

Remember me

Though I have to travel far

Remember me

Each time you hear a sad guitar

Know that I'm with you the only way that I can be

Until you're in my arms again

Remember me!
