Thank you for your swift and heartfelt responses to our Caregiver Survey! I’ve read your thoughts, suggestions and desires. Your clarity has given us a powerful roadmap forward.
Here are a few of your top requests:
Connection and Community: Gathering with fellow caregivers over a shared meal or a cozy coffee meet-up to exchange stories, laughter, and support.
Rest and Renewal: A self-care Spa Day or a complimentary night at a hotel to unwind, recharge, and feel truly seen.
So, how do we move forward to support you?
We’ve compiled your responses alongside national caregiving trends, and we’re leaning into the initiatives that best serve you in our local communities.
The Robert Henderson Legacy Fund at Morgan’s continues to grow. Morgan’s vision of inclusion will help guide us as we ensure that individuals with disabilities, as well as you, their caregivers, are seen, honored and supported.
We’re making space for you to be heard and included. Your call for respite and community has been received at In Our Arms.
I value your time, and we are committed to meet you with open hands and caring hearts.
“Turning Pain into Purpose” is not just a catchy phrase from me. It is a focused calling to reach you in practical and observable ways beyond the places we have met you in the past. Many of you know our family’s story of caring for our son, Robert, who lived for eighteen years with multiple medical complexities. We speak and act from our experiences as a caregiver family. You need the real, raw truths about this journey. I will not lie — this road is just hard work!
We will continue to put our advocacy “capes” on daily to support you. There is no gain for us other than seeing you succeed. Thank you for the privilege of allowing us into your lives.
We may walk differently on our caregiving journeys, but we will speak together and find purpose in the pain … and be better because of it.
One Voice at a Time
Empowering Caregivers, Honoring Lives
Robert Henderson, son of Juli and James “Chris” Henderson, faced a rare mitochondrial disease and CHD2 myoclonic encephalopathy with extraordinary courage during his eighteen years of life, enduring intractable seizures, progressive loss of motor function and comprehension, innumerable hospitalizations, and multiple operations. His journey was defined by love, laughter, and music, inspiring all who knew him.
To honor Robert and the caregivers who played a vital role in ensuring his life was filled with meaningful experiences, the Henderson family established this fund. Its mission is to support programs and initiatives that empower caregivers and celebrate individuals with disabilities, reflecting the inclusive vision of Morgan’s.
This fund is the first named memorial endowment at Morgan’s and serves as a powerful testament to the lasting impact of a life filled with love.
Listening Library: “Better Because Of It” (Danny Gokey)
Better Because Of It
Devastated, an understatement
It's not part of the plan
You're asking why He didn't stop it
If the whole world's in His hands
Suffocating in the waiting
And your faith is wearing down
But there's hope even though
You can't understand the pain of your road
He's in the future, He knows something you don't
One day, you'll see, you'll be on the other side of this
All done with it
Better because of it, because of it
Better because of it, because of it
Someone's gonna need your story to get them through the night
Someone's gonna see His glory, by the way, He won your fight
There's a breaking in the waiting
And the storm keeps bearing down
But there's hope even though, even though
You can't understand the pain of your road
He's in the future, He knows something you don't
One day, you'll see, you'll be on the other side of this
All done with it
Better because of it, because of it
Better because of it, oh
Everything that you think will break you
Are the things that He'll use to make you
So hold on longer, so hold on
Everything that you think will kill you
Are the things that He'll use to build you
So you'll be stronger, you'll be
You're better because of it, ayy
Suffocating in the waiting
And your faith is wearing down, mmm
Better because of it, because of it
Better because of it, because of it
Better because of it, oh
Ooh, oh yeah
He's making you stronger through it all
Making you stronger
